CYC Children Summer Camp 2013

The Children and Youth Center launched the annual Children summer camp in Siblin College – UNRWA, from 12 to 19 august 2013

With 70 children and teenagers from Sabra, Shatila, and Nahr El Bared Camps, CYC has started the annual children camp funded by UNICEF and Save the Children, which allowed the Children to have the chance to enjoy the space of freedom and play in a clean environment. The children played, danced, sang, had talent development programs, and practiced their hobbies, such as sports, drawing, painting, and handcrafts. In addition to that, they were able to make friendships from both camps. Lectures on child rights, nonviolence, and negative effects of school dropout were also given, where the children were active listeners, since they reflected back on the main points and summarized what has been said. Moreover, a trip was held to Qasmieh River.

At the end of the camping, an exhibition was held whereby the parents were invited to see their children’s displayed work which they made throughout the week of their camping. The best aspect of the camping witnessed by the facilitators was the joy and happiness that appeared on the Children’s faces during that week. It felt it was worth all the hard work with the children because we were able to notice a glimpse of their happiness that isn’t usually seen in the distressing and tight atmosphere of the refugee camp. Thanks to UNICEF and Save the Children for funding the summer camp, and to UNRWA for hosting the summer camp in Siblin Center.
